GWHS ELPT
Hello I am one of the ELPT's at GWHS that manage the Bilingual Program for our New Comer, Bilingual, Multilingual, and Multicultural students @ GWHS. Our role as ELPTs and mission as Bilingual Coordinators is to ensure that our Multilingual Learners (MLs), English Learners (ELs) have equitable access to a high-quality and rigorous education. We provide support beyond the high school level support, we also provide post secondary support which involves career support. We help students with navigating the complexities of graduation requirements, college readiness, and career pathways. I work closely with students to monitor their academic progress, provide targeted linguistic support, and ensure they are placed in courses that challenge their intellect while respecting their current English proficiency levels by advocating for their unique needs. We help students transform their home languages from perceived barriers into professional assets.
Effective communication is the cornerstone of a thriving school culture. As one of the Bilingual Coordinators, we serve as a vital link between the school and our diverse families, ensuring that language is never an obstacle to a parent’s involvement in their child’s education. Whether it is facilitating translated communications, coordinating interpreters for parent-teacher conferences, or leading Bilingual Advisory Council (BAC) meetings, my goal is to foster an environment where every family feels heard and empowered. We believe that when parents are informed and engaged, student outcomes improve across the board.
Collaborative Leadership and Compliance
Beyond direct student support, the role of the Bilingual Coordinator involves strategic collaboration with faculty and administration. We provide professional development and instructional strategies to help content-area teachers make their lessons more accessible to English Learners. Additionally, I oversee the state and federal compliance requirements such as the ACCESS test, Seal of Biliteracy and the annual identification and placement of students that ensure our programs meet or exceed state standards. We provide a student and teacher model of inclusivity and academic excellence for all learners.
